Fallout New Vegas Ps3 Ultimate Edition
Fallout 3 was one of my favorite games this gen despite the bugs. I got the GOTY and like many, noticed the frequent freezes that required me to restart my PS3. I was working on finishing it to make room for other games on my hard drive, but it kept freezing and lagging so badly, right at the same spot every time. I just gave up (it was the last mission, no great loss).
With the introduction of the Ultimate Edition, Bethesda Softworks offers you the chance to double-down and get the complete package of New Vegas fun. For the first time in one package, you can get all the Fallout: New Vegas content including the full suite of highly acclaimed add-on content: Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues. Ultimate Edition Edit. The Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition was released on February 7th, 2012 in North America and February 10th in Europe. The package contents are the base game along with all add-ons, including Gun Runner's Arsenal and Courier's Stash.
The reason I am writing this is I am considering the New Vegas Ultimate Edition, but is it as bad for freezing as the Fallout 3 GOTY? I purchased and played the DLCs separately for New Vegas, and for the first 2 DLCs I played (Dead Money and Honest Hearts) I barely had any issues, especially with Dead Money. Then I got to the other 2, and that's when the technical issues became much more common, especially in the last one I played, Lonesome Road. I'm pretty sure it's all a matter of your save file size. The larger it becomes, the more unstable the game becomes. That said, play the add-ons you think you'll enjoy more first, then play the rest, or better yet, play them on different files if you don't mind doing that. I'm also not sure how the Ultimate Edition compares to just downloading the add-ons separately.
You might run into more problems sooner, I really don't know. Just be prepared to save often.
It's a shame they didn't put the effort into fixing this game along with Fallout 3 GOTY as they did with Skyrim, because it's still an awesome game. It starts out smooth enough, but it gets incredibly glitchy as you play on. It's still an awesome game though. I didn't like it nearly as much as Fallout 3 when I first started because it wasn't as atmospheric or scenic, but I ended up liking it even more. There's an insane amount of stuff to do, people to meet, things to sell, etc. And the freedom to do what you want is simply unmatched this generation. There's some pretty interesting companions to pick up along the way as well, unlike the mostly forgettable ones of Fallout 3.

Fallout is one of my favorite franchises too.I bought New Vegas day 1 and of course there were the obligatory occasional freezes. Bethesda heavily recommends you turn off the autosaves (really does help) but that opens up another can of worms when you've been playing for a while, forgot to save, and the game freezes.I beat it then sold it. Started to feel the itch to play the DLC when the Ultimate Edition came out.Bottom line:With all the DLC installed you will run into constant lag and frame rate drops to the single digits. There was none of this before with no DLC installed. Honestly idk why because all the DLC happens in nodes off the main map.
It got to the point where I was having to reboot every hour or so. I hear the 360 fared a little better, but not much.Sad but true. I don't think that there's a difference between the standard editions and GOTY/Ultimate editions. It's all about how long you play it. As your save file increases, quality decreases. Same goes for Skyrim, though it's much worse for that game. That's how I've always seen it.
But still, New Vegas is well worth the bugs (which have been patched quite well since launch). In many cases, I think that New Vegas is better than FO3. Better factions, better soundtrack, better environment, iron sights, better side quests, and more 'WTF?' Moments to be found while exploring. Don't get the game on ps3, it's not worth playing. It's great on pc, terrible/unplayable/headache inducing on the ps3. I have both versions and you have to be a masochist to enjoy it especially as the game progresses.
The load times alone become too much as you are constantly going in and outside and travelling around, the game is meant to be played fast where you are constantly zipping around doing everything but on the ps3 it takes maybe an hour to do as much as I would on my pc in 5-10, especially in the new vegas area where are all the quests are linked inside small areas, doing missions becomes painful because you will hesitate going somewhere because it runs so badly. I owned both Fallout 3 and its GOTYE. The GOTYE only crashed countless times over and over again on the Operation Anchorage Expansion. It took 2 years to complete it. However, I sold it after I got all the trophies and decided to give Fallout New Vegas UE a go. Sadly this game is awful unlike Fallout 3 GOTYE. It crashed 5 minutes when I first played it. I feel that since I bought the PS3 slim back in 2011, that this game might have actually killed my new PS3 as Im now getting problems with reading some games and movies.

I would suggest buying it for the PC but even so, I hear they too have problems now and again, just not as bad. Its one reason Im wondering if I should get Skyrim GOTYE when its released later this year.
